Progress in Iraq - Don't be fooled again

Bush is preparing to announce that, once again, we are making progress in Iraq. Does that sound familiar?

Veterans oppose troop escalation

Every soldier there is an additional mouth to feed, soldier to arm and, if they're lucky, provide body armor for. Ok, so I've been posting a lot of videos lately, but so far I haven't gotten many complaints. In fact, I haven't gotten any comments recently. Come on now. Let me know how you feel!

Any how, on to the story. This recent commercial summarizes the debate about troop escalations called for by President Bush.

Unfortunately, when you have a president who profits indirectly through his investments in United Defense for every troop we send over, how can you expect him to not call for an escalation, even 4 years after his famous "Mission Accomplished" speech.

Who's going to stop him? The vice president? He is also profiting on the war through Haliburton. Every soldier there is an additional mouth to feed, soldier to arm and, if they're lucky, provide body armor for.

It's disheartening to watch our public school systems fail and our economy crumble while we attempt to help Iraqis control their capital city. I guess we should all be investing in Haliburton and United Defense since Bush claims that the war will continue as long as he is in office.

And are we creating allies here? I don't imagine so.

Bush, the decider, says his plan will work this time "because I told them it had to"

President Bush shakes hands with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi prior to his 2007 State of the Union addressI feel much better now. I wasn't a supporter of Bush's plan to send more troops to Iraq until I heard this:

This week Nancy Pelosi said that Bush has "tried this two times — it's failed twice. I asked him at the White House, 'Mr. President, why do you think this time it's going to work?'" to which Bush responed "Because I told them it had to."

"I hear the voices." - Bush That is encouraging. Apparently, the reason we are failing in Iraq is because Bush hadn't yet told the Generals that their plans had to work. Now things should go much better.

To Bush, Nancy Pelosi responded "Why didn't you tell them that the other two times?" Good point.

Yesterday, the president told reporters that he would ignore Congress and their opposition to his escalation plan. His reasoning is that he's "the Decision Maker". Watch it:

He's the decider. "One of the things I found in Congress is that most people recognize that failure would be a disaster for the United States, and — I’m the decision-maker. I had to come up with a way forward that precluded disaster."

Don't forget. He's the Decider. He Decides what's best. Of course, he also "hears the voices." Is he The Manchurian Candidate or what?

Bush vs. Bush

This is the best debate on the war in Iraq I've seen in a long time! Enjoy:

First Lieutenant Ehren Watada refuses orders to fight in Iraq

Ehren Watada is a First Lieutenant in the United States Army who in June 2006 publicly refused to deploy to Iraq saying that he believed the war to be illegal and that it would make him party to war crimes.
In an unprecedented move, First Lieutenant Ehren Watada has refused orders to deploy to Iraq on grounds that the war is illegal.

Apparently, acting in his role of a responsible officer, Watada had been researching Iraq, the history of Iraqis and their conflicts, our operations in Iraq, and the war in general, prior to accompanying his unit to Iraq. What he found was astonishing to him.

According to Watada, "my participation [in the war] would make me party to war crimes." He discovered that our actions in Iraq, from our daily actions such as illegal detentions of Iraqi civilians, to our original declaration of war, were all illegal. According to Watada, "my participation [in the war] would make me party to war crimes."

He is now being court marshaled on charges of missing movement, conduct unbecoming an officer for publicly speaking out against the war, and contempt toward officials for his claims against President Bush and his administration.

Watch Watada's AWESOME speech to Veterans for Peace on why he refused to deploy to Iraq, and why every soldier should lay down their weapons so that no president in the future can declare a war for personal gain and profit.

Thank you Lt. Watada for your bravery and loyalty to this country!
